Polyurethane sponge
PUR and PU sponge is a polymer composed of organic units connected by carbamate (urethane) bonds. Most polyurethanes are thermoset polymers, meaning they do not melt when heated, and thermoplastic melt polyurethanes are also available, which can be melt-molded and used as a semi-rethane adhesive.
Polyurethanes are used in the production of highly elastic foam materials – polyurethane sponges. Mattresses and soft seats, furniture and car parts made of sponge and memory foam are made from polyurethane. In addition, this type of sponge is also used for packaging sensitive goods, in the electrical industry and as soundproofing.
Most polyurethane sponges are also highly fire resistant and chemically inert, making them ideal for almost any application, especially room soundproofing and sleeping mattresses.
The superior softness and flexibility that polyurethane offers over other foam materials make it perfect for furniture making. It is also resistant to tearing and abrasion making it extremely durable. The open-cell structure makes this product particularly useful for thermal insulation.
