What are sponges?

  • • Sponges are a type of foamy material that arise when gas pockets get trapped in liquid or solid material. Foamy materials can have open- or closed-cell structure.
  • • In sponges or sponge foams with a closed-cell structure, gases in small pockets are completely surrounded by solid material. Camping mats are an example of a sponge foam with a closed-cellular structure – in them, gas pockets are separated from one another so that the mat would not absorb water.
  • • A bath sponge is an example of a sponge foam with an open cellular structure – here water easy permeates the entire structure, so the pockets that are until then filled by air become full of water.

What examples of sponges are there?

  • • Examples of foam created by the formation of pockets of gas in a liquid include whipped cream, firefighting foam, soapy water.
  • • Raised bread dough is an example of a semi-solid foam.
  • • Hard foams include memory foam, polystyrene foam and sponge rubber (exercise mats – such as yoga mats).

What are solid foams made of?
Most foams consist of 50% polyols, 40% polyisocyanates, and 10% water and other chemicals. Polyisocyanates and polyols are liquid polymers that, when combined with water, produce an exothermic (heat is generated) reaction that forms polyurethane, which is used to make sponge foams.

What are technical foams?

Those are industrial sponge foams or sponges for industrial use – sponges for soundproofing, for sealing, sponges used as filters, sponges for packing and packaging, etc.

Our technical foams are available in all common densities and colors. Of course, we also offer special solutions to meet your needs. The properties of our technical foams are always in accordance with your requirements, so we offer antistatic, flame-resistant, conductive or ultralight sponges.
